Stomach Health
Diagnosing What You Can't See
Equine Gastric Ulcer Syndrome (EGUS) affects a significant percentage of horses, particularly those in training, competition, or stressful environments. Studies suggest that up to 90% of racehorses and 60% of performance horses may have gastric ulcers to some degree.
Gastroscopy is the gold standard for diagnosing gastric ulcers. Using a 3-meter endoscope, we can directly visualize the stomach lining to identify ulceration, assess severity, and determine the most appropriate treatment protocol.
The procedure requires the horse to be fasted for 12-18 hours and is performed under standing sedation. It's quick, minimally invasive, and provides definitive answers that guide effective treatment. Follow-up gastroscopy can also be used to confirm healing and adjust therapy as needed.

Signs Your Horse May Have Gastric Ulcers
If your horse is showing any of the following signs, gastroscopy may be recommended to determine if ulcers are the underlying cause.
